Seven Morning Prayers for Our Children on Their Way to School
There is something sacred about the ordinary moments we share with our children.
The drive to school. The conversations before the first bell. The few minutes between leaving home and stepping into a world where we cannot always follow.
In our family, we've begun using those minutes to pray over our son.
We ask the Holy Spirit to fill him with courage and joy. We pray for the fruit of the Spirit to grow in his life. We plead the blood of Jesus over him, asking God to guard what he sees and hears. We stand against the schemes of the enemy, asking the Lord to clothe him in His armor.
We pray for his school, for the protection and peace of God to surround it. We pray for his teacher, that she would be filled with joy, patience, and wisdom. And we ask that the favor of the Lord would rest upon him as he learns, grows, and builds friendships.
These prayers are not a formula. They are an invitation to entrust our children to the Lord, again and again.
And before our son opens the car door, we ask him to say one final thing:
“The joy of the Lord is my strength.” — Nehemiah 8:10
We want those words to become familiar to his heart. Not simply something he repeats, but a truth he learns to carry.
We cannot control everything our children will encounter in a day. But we can faithfully place them in the hands of Jesus.
Seven things to pray over your children:
— 01 BOLDNESS & JOY
Holy Spirit, anoint our children with boldness and courage today.
Let them walk into every room knowing You are with them. Fill their hearts with a joy that is not dependent on their circumstances, but rooted in Your presence.
Joshua 1:9 · Romans 15:13
— 02 THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT
Holy Spirit, let Your fruit be evident in their lives today.
May love lead their conversations, kindness shape their friendships, patience guide their responses, and self-control guard their actions.
Let others encounter something of Jesus through the way they live.
Galatians 5:22–23
— 03 COVER THEIR EYES & EARS
Jesus, we plead Your precious blood over our children.
Guard what enters through their eyes and ears. Give them discernment to recognize what is true, good, and pleasing to You.
May the voices around them never become louder than Your voice within them.
Psalm 119:37 · John 10:27
— 04 THE ARMOR OF GOD
In the name of Jesus, we stand against every scheme of the enemy concerning our children.
We ask You to dismantle every plan meant to lead them away from truth, peace, or their identity in Christ.
Clothe them in the full armor of God. Let truth, righteousness, faith, salvation, and Your Word guard them today.
Ephesians 6:10–18
— 05 COVER THEIR SCHOOL
Lord, we lift up every hallway, classroom, playground, and child in their school.
We ask for a wall of Your protection to surround that place like fire. Let Your peace rest within its walls, and may Your presence be known there.
Protect every student, teacher, and staff member today.
Zechariah 2:5 · Psalm 91:11
— 06 STRENGTHEN THEIR TEACHERS
Father, we pray for the teachers entrusted with our children.
Fill them with joy for the work of their hands, patience for every difficult moment, and wisdom for every child in their care.
May they feel encouraged, strengthened, and deeply valued today.
James 1:5 · Colossians 1:11
— 07 FAVOR & GRACE
Lord, let Your favor rest upon our children.
Give them favor in their relationships, in their learning, and in the places You have called them to grow.
May they be quick to listen, eager to learn, humble in heart, and confident in who You have made them to be.
Luke 2:52 · Psalm 90:17
The invitation is simply to begin.
You don't have to pray perfectly, and you don't have to pray every word every morning.
Some days you may have fifteen minutes. Other days you may have thirty seconds.
Let your children hear you call upon the name of Jesus. Let them learn that prayer belongs in the everyday places of life.
Because we aren't just preparing our children for another school day.
We're teaching them where to turn for the rest of their lives.
