Prayers for the Night

7 prayers to pray over your children before they sleep

There is something sacred about the last few moments of the day.

Before our boys fall asleep, we often sit at their beside, place our hands on them, and pray. We pray for their dreams, their bodies, their futures, their protection, and most of all, that their lives would belong completely to Jesus.

These aren't magic words or a formula. They're simply some of the prayers that have become part of the rhythm of our home.

Take what is helpful. Make the words your own. And let the bedside become another place where your children learn what it feels like to be covered in prayer.

  • KEEPER OF THEIR DREAMS
Lord, be the keeper of their dreams. Holy Spirit, reveal Jesus to them as they sleep. Speak to them in their dreams, and let even their resting hours belong to You.

  • SUSTAIN THEM
Lord, sustain them through the night. Thank You for every breath in their lungs and every beat of their hearts. May every breath and every heartbeat be for You.

  • SURROUND THEM
Lord, send Your angels to stand guard over them. Fill this room with Your peaceful presence, and let them rest knowing they are surrounded by You.

  • PROTECT THEM
Thank You for being their faithful armor and protection. Cover them through the night and let them rest safely and without fear in Your presence.

  • YOUR PLANS WILL STAND
In the name of Jesus, we dismantle every scheme and plan of the enemy against this home and against their lives. We declare that they will walk in the plans You have for them. What You have spoken is done. What You have written is done.

  • THE FINISHED WORK OF JESUS
We ask for the blood of Jesus to wash over them and through them. May they receive the complete and finished work of the cross in their hearts, souls, and bodies. Let their lives belong completely to Jesus.

  • BLESS THEM & KEEP THEM
“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”
    Numbers 6:24–26

YOU DON’T NEED PERFECT WORDS.
JUST PRAY.

Stand beside their bed.
Put your hand on their head.
Speak the name of Jesus over them.
Bless them.
And do it again tomorrow.

and then, we rest.

Thank You, Jesus, that we can call on Your name. Thank You that we can place even the ones most precious to us into Your hands.

You love them more deeply than we ever could. You are faithful to keep them, lead them, and be near to them.

So tonight, we entrust our children to You—and rest.
